So we don't have cable. After having cable TV all my life I thought that this would be a struggle for me but can I tell you something... it is not!
I thought I would miss it.
I thought I would be bored or feel disconnected.
But I don't.
Every once in a while I'll get excited to go on a trip because I know the hotel will have cable. I get excited to see what is on but I find myself when I get there that I turn it on, flip channels for 5 minutes straight and then end up turning the TV right back off.
I really do not miss it!
Now to be fair, we do still get our fair share of media in. We have a computer, we have netflix, we have two sets of parents who live minutes away and could DVR anything we really "needed" to see. So when the hubs doesn't have to work too late we do enjoy watching a show here and there and if it is a show we like we tend to watch the entire season in a 2 to 4 week span. It is so much easier to watch a show without commercials. And it is also a lot easier to not have to wait an entire week when you end on a cliffhanger, we just say we can do one more and start the next one up. Sometimes this results in later nights than others, but we have fun with it. We usually watch one show from start to finish meaning with watch every episode of every season before we move on to the next show. This is not always the case, but usually.

This is one of our favorite shows of all times and we probably discovered it about a year ago. We watched all 6 seasons one right after the other. We are anticipating season 7 starting up again in February. It is SO FUNNY! Plus it is a crime solving one too which keeps you on your toes and guessing who did what. We love it and HIGHLY recommend it!
Another Favorite that is still going strong. We watched the first 4 seasons of this in probably a 6 week span. Ridiculous right? This show is just funny. Jeff likes it a lot more then I do, meaning he is usually laughing out loud the entire episode while it usually generates a few chuckles from me. But I do still enjoy it. Season 5 just started so we usually watch it the day after it airs online.
Modern Family
This is one that I feel like we just started watching but we LOVE IT! We made it through the first 3 seasons in no time. The 4th season just started and we are still loving it. We both laugh out loud because it is hilarious. But I also really like it because it has so much real life humor. It does have some tender moments that have made me tear up on occasion too. But it is mostly just funny, funny, funny! I was hesitant to watch it because the family is such a tender subject to me but I love it because they are a normal crazy family with all sorts of issues but they still love and respect each other. I guess I thought it was going to be more like arrested development (which Jeff loves). I HATE that show. The family members are just awful to each other and I just do not feel good watching it and I don't like that it is promoting that it is OK to treat your family that way. This show is the opposite. They love each other, they support each other despite their issues and that is what having a family is all about.
Guys with Kids
We just discovered this show about 2 weeks ago. We were checking on something else and Jeff saw the preview for this and said to click it. We watched it and then immediately started the first episode. LOVE IT! Jimmy Fallon is the creator of this show & we love Jimmy Fallon so that is how Jeff heard about it. It is in it's first season, I think there are only 4 episodes out, but it is so awesome! I think I was really spoiled watching those other shows one episode right after the other because I hate that I have to wait a full week to see it again. You should watch it.
I started watching this while Jeff was in busy season last year thinking he probably wouldn't want to watch it but he ended up going back and watching most of the ones I watched without him. I'm still kind of undecided how I feel about this one. I think it is a cool concept, but it is just so dark. When I heard everyone talking about it last year I assumed since it was about fairy tales it would just be so nice and happy. But really, it seems so dark to me. I am still hooked and we just started watching this season. When last season ended I had no idea how they would be able to keep the story going, but I think I like this season even more. So we'll see what happens. This is an action adventure show.
This is one that is growing us. We started it a while ago when we didn't really have anything to watch. Lots of people suggested it so we watched a few episode and just did not love it. We started watching it again the other day and it is growing on us. Still don't love it enough to sit down and watch every single episode, but we will probably keep watching it when we don't have anything else. This just started the 8th season so I think it will be a long time before we finish it.
I think I mentioned on here before that we watched LOST. Obviously we jumped on this bandwagon a few years late. I think the season finally happen while we were still back in Utah. But we have been finished with this for a while now. This is another one that neither of us loved, but we just had to find out what was going to happen next. There were some cool adventures, but you really just kept watching to answer all the million questions you had. I honestly thing it was called lost, not because they were lost but because you were lost watching it.
I think my favorite thing about no TV is that in order to watch something I have to almost set aside time and plan for it. We have to look it up, set it up, and then we can watch. I cant just turn on the TV and watch whatever. It has made me more selective which is a good thing. We are really in charge of what we allow to be shown in our home which is really important to me, especially since there is SO MUCH GARBAGE on TV now. I love that we have no commercials because it seems like they are worse than the shows these days. I love it. And thanks to the Internet, I really don't feel like we are missing anything. If there is something we want to see, we can find it.
So alas, I am not bummed anymore, but rather pleased. And even when we have a little more money to spend, I don't think we will choose to spend it on cable.
