Don't Pray for Patience

A few of my other mom friends have told me it is never a good idea to pray for patience because Heavenly Father is always willing to give you opportunities to be patient if you do.  I personally had not experienced this until today.  I had 15 minutes this morning while the kids were still occupied so I decided I would read my scriptures like I had challenged my YW to.  I said a prayer before I got started and I asked for help applying what I was reading to my life and I through in a little line about being more patient as well.  I felt like my study went really well and was feeling really good and excited to start my day off on the right foot.

When I came out I found my children on the floor smashing frosted mini-wheats into the carpet.  As in they dumped the ENTIRE bag on the floor and took P's tools and were hammering them into the floor.  How on earth do they come up with these things?  I felt like my prayer helped in the sense that I did not yell at my children.  Little did I know I had more in store for me today.

Quiet time today started out normal, with lots of laughter and loud noises.  After about a half hour I decided to poke my head in because the laughter had ceased and if you are a parent, you know that silence is never a good thing.  Well, I was right.  I opened the door to find this:

I must be honest, as soon as I opened the door I started laughing which is good in the sense that I did explode at my children but bad because it only encourages the behavior.  I ran and grabbed the camera and then calmly discussed my frustration and why this was a bad choice.  They each had a Costco size bottle of lotion and had pumped out who knows how much lotion on themselves, their clothes, their toys, their books. the floor and Em's hair.  Also note they found the box of wipes and thought it was important to open every one of those (at least they didn't empty them too).

Then we cleaned up and then took a much needed bath.

Positive things from this experience:
My children are growing taller and can now reach things they couldn't before
Their room smells fresh as a new baby
Don't sweat the small stuff, messes can be cleaned

Needless to say, my friends were right.  On the other hand, I did learn a lot too.  And aside from the hassle of cleaning up these messes there was no harm done.  And I feel like a better mom today because I didn't yell at my children because of these messes.  So I guess my prayer was answered.  Lesson learned.

Love these kids and how they help make me a better person everyday.

Oh my. I am so sorry you had to clean that up, but I am just so amazed at how awesome you are to turn that all around and be a happy good mom. You are so great Rebecca!

This is so funny! I'm impressed that you didn't freak out. I was freaking out just looking at the pictures and thinking of all the scrubbing I would have had to do! You're awesome!

The Light of the World

I was asked to give a talk yesterday in church.  Kinda daunting knowing it was Christmas Sunday, but I think it went pretty well.  I like remembering my talk so I'm throwing it up here mainly for my own record.  But maybe it will bless the lives of others too.  I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and that the Light of Christ will be upon you and radiate from you now and forever. Jesus Christ: The Light of the World Rebecca’s talk given on 12/20/2015 Jesus Christ.  Can a topic be any broader? I have spent a lot of time over the last 6 weeks trying to decide what direction I wanted to go and I kept going back to the same thought, Jesus is the light of the world.  This is not an insignificant statement, but very profound and very important.  Let’s start from the beginning. Many Prophets have testified of the fact that Jesus Christ is the light of the world long before the Savior was even born.  The very first sign of his bir...

Because God Love's Us

How is Christ’s Birth Significant to me Talk on 12/20/2020 Good Morning Brothers and Sisters & Merry Christmas!   Heavenly Father must know my preferred method for giving a talk is procrastinating because I have been called to fill in last minute on many occasions.   However, this is the first time it’s happened on Christmas Sunday.   But I am happy to be here with you and I’m so grateful for technology that allows us to meet and worship together, especially during this Christmas season.   I’m not gonna lie, this is weird speaking on zoom.   I much prefer being together and making eye contact with you and seeing your encouraging smiles.   So please bear with any awkwardness I may have.   When initially asked to speak, Brother Smith gave me the topic of “How Christ’s birth is significant to me.”   My initial response was, could that topic be any broader?   But then gratefully he followed it up with “Particularly from the prosp...

Kid's Talks

Riley’s Primary Talk on Baptism 3/15/20 Today I want to talk on Baptism.   Being baptized is a commandment from Heavenly Father.   We have to be baptized to make it back to Him.   Even Jesus Christ was baptized.   If Jesus Christ was baptized we should be baptized too.   When we turn 8 years old we can choose to follow Jesus Christ’s example and be baptized too.   When we are baptized and confirmed we become members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.     If you have already been baptized, you should remember the covenants, or promises you made.   If you have not been baptized, you should study and pray and keep the commandments so that when you turn 8 years old you will be ready. We should all remember how important baptism is.   I am really excited I get to be baptized next year.   In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen Faith Parker’s Talk   2/16/20   Today, my talk is going to be about f...
