See Rebecca Tri: Take 2

You might remember I did my first triathlon last year.  Well, this crazy lady signed up to do it again this year.  All summer I was planning on training so I could drop some serious time.  We have a pool right down the street, the kids love when I take them for runs, it all seemed to be in my favor to really get prepared this year.  We did go to the pool often however, it was for the kids to play, not for me to do laps.  In fact I did not swim laps once this year!  How sad is that!  As for running... only if you count running down hill on my weekly walk to the library.  I did borrow my friends bike & trailer once.  That was a really good work out and fun for me and the kids.  But other than that, ZERO training.

I was pretty nervous this year, more nervous than last year but I was still excited   It was a pretty busy day though.  Right after the tri I had to hurry home, get cleaned up and go to a wedding.  Why do I always have nice events on the only days I sign up to do races?  (last time I had the color run & then Les Mis)  O-well, such is life I guess.

I rode to the tri with some friends.  We got all set up and ready to go.  As we stood at the water waiting for them to start they announced that there was a problem with the bike route so they had to change it last minute and the event would be postponed an hour!  Now I was really going to cut the wedding close.  The Hubs and kids made it and we had the chance to hang out while we waited for the race to start.

Em kept asking me not to race.
Finally after an hour of waiting in my swimsuit (awkward...) they said we could get started!  I was in the second heat and ready to go!  It was fun to have my family there cheering me on at each exchange.  Here are my Awesome Cheerleaders!

And 9:06 I was off!

Swim = 8:42 (last year 7:15)

Bike = 32:50 (Last year 54:31)
Run = 30:15 (last year 28:30)

Finish = 1:16:51 (last year 1:33:27)

I was really excited when I saw my time coming in because I didn't think I did that well.  When you have 50 year olds passing you on the last leg of the race it doesn't do much for your self esteem.  But really, I LOVE this event!  I would recommend it to anyone who wants to do a race.  This one really is the best.  They have workers all along that are cheering you on the WHOLE TIME.  They tell you how awesome you are and how good of a job you are doing.  It really just made me feel so good and I love being a part of it.  Even when people were passing me they were telling me good job and to keep going.  If you know me, you know am a competitor.  I like to win.  But honestly in this race, everyone is a winner.  I know that sounds super cheesy but that is really how I felt this year and last year.  The fact that there are people from ate 12 to age 70 competing in this event tells you how divers yet how awesome it is.  To see all these women together cheering each other on... it really is just awesome.

It was fun to see my kids at the end of the race.  They were so excited mostly about all the treat I brought back with me... thank you free samples!  They have fun looking at my medal and Em even tried it on with me.  Silly girl.

All in all, I am proud of my performance, especially with the lack of training.  The swim and run were much slower, but I did drop a TON of time on my bike.  It was a couple miles shorter, but I think the difference was I used a road bike this year rather than a mountain bike.  It made a HUGE difference!  Thanks to one of my best friends for letting me borrow her bike.

Thank you See Jane Run for putting on such an awesome event!  Who's going to do it with me next year?  You totally should, it is awesome!

The Light of the World

I was asked to give a talk yesterday in church.  Kinda daunting knowing it was Christmas Sunday, but I think it went pretty well.  I like remembering my talk so I'm throwing it up here mainly for my own record.  But maybe it will bless the lives of others too.  I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and that the Light of Christ will be upon you and radiate from you now and forever. Jesus Christ: The Light of the World Rebecca’s talk given on 12/20/2015 Jesus Christ.  Can a topic be any broader? I have spent a lot of time over the last 6 weeks trying to decide what direction I wanted to go and I kept going back to the same thought, Jesus is the light of the world.  This is not an insignificant statement, but very profound and very important.  Let’s start from the beginning. Many Prophets have testified of the fact that Jesus Christ is the light of the world long before the Savior was even born.  The very first sign of his bir...

Because God Love's Us

  How is Christ’s Birth Significant to me Talk on 12/20/2020 Good Morning Brothers and Sisters & Merry Christmas!   Heavenly Father must know my preferred method for giving a talk is procrastinating because I have been called to fill in last minute on many occasions.   However, this is the first time it’s happened on Christmas Sunday.   But I am happy to be here with you and I’m so grateful for technology that allows us to meet and worship together, especially during this Christmas season.   I’m not gonna lie, this is weird speaking on zoom.   I much prefer being together and making eye contact with you and seeing your encouraging smiles.   So please bear with any awkwardness I may have.   When initially asked to speak, Brother Smith gave me the topic of “How Christ’s birth is significant to me.”   My initial response was, could that topic be any broader?   But then gratefully he followed it up with “Particularly from the prosp...

Kid's Talks

  Riley’s Primary Talk on Baptism 3/15/20 Today I want to talk on Baptism.   Being baptized is a commandment from Heavenly Father.   We have to be baptized to make it back to Him.   Even Jesus Christ was baptized.   If Jesus Christ was baptized we should be baptized too.   When we turn 8 years old we can choose to follow Jesus Christ’s example and be baptized too.   When we are baptized and confirmed we become members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.     If you have already been baptized, you should remember the covenants, or promises you made.   If you have not been baptized, you should study and pray and keep the commandments so that when you turn 8 years old you will be ready. We should all remember how important baptism is.   I am really excited I get to be baptized next year.   In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen Faith Parker’s Talk   2/16/20   Today, my talk is going to be about f...
