Sippy Success!

The little man finally did it! As a result we haven't given him a bottle in 2 days (well kinda)! I'm thrilled! Thanks to the genius company AVENT we had success. Playtex Drop-Ins and AVENT are the two bottle brands we use the most. And in the past few months it has only been AVENT. So Parker recognizes the bottle specifically and wants that one bottle specifically. So I think that is why anytime we brought another type of cup he just would have it. He would scream and shake his head so we could even help him understand that it was what he wanted. One of my friends showed me this a while back, but I kinda assumed he wouldn't like it because the top was so hard and flat. The most success we have had previously were with ones that were most like a bottle nipple, soft and round. And I actually had gotten a sippy cup from them with this same top and he just wouldn't have it. But then we realized we could put it on his normal bottle like so:
So we went and got some with a little faster flow (as pictured below)


And TADA!! Magic!


He still doesn't really love it, but he is drinking from it as well as other similar sippies.

I still and kind of curious about a few things and would like your expertise. He doesn't drink very much in one sitting anymore. 1 oz on average in fact. Now I'm not sure if this is because Whole Milk is heavier, or if he is still trying to get the hang of things, or if he doesn't like how cold it is. We heat it up sometimes and it helps, but the most he has ever had at once is 3 oz.

What are your thoughts?

How did your kids transition?

I'm just so happy he is finally getting the hang of it! It took a little sneaky behavior on our part, but it is happening and he is still happy so I am happy.

I felt the same way with the boys. It seemed like they would take a couple of sips and then throw their cups down. What I do now is just give them milk in their sippy for breakfast and dinner. They drink most of it some days and barely any other days. But I usually leave the milk in there for a couple hours so they can come back for it when they want, which they usually do once its room temp. The rest of the day they just get water. Lately they have been coming up to me and signing drink so I know they are thirsty and I love that. But to sum up, I basically just offer them their cups throughout the day, milk in the morning and evening and water during the rest of the day.

L totally plummeted in his drinking consumption when we first took the bottle away and only had sippies. Maybe a week or two?? Then he slowly started gaining more confidence and enjoying the sippies more, and realizing that milk was yummy cold and whatnot. Just give him time. He'll learn to love it and drink more. I'm glad you're having a little success!

Yup, I agree with the two previous ladies. Don't worry about the quantity that he is, or isn't, drinking. Just offer him the cup throughout the day and he'll get more used it. Hurray for small successes! Good luck when your little lady comes along.

I need a haircut ASAP! This is me saying, "I'll smile if you ignore my hair." Don't get me wrong, I am really excited I have long hair, I love having long hair , but it needs a little TLC. Em's Blessing

Emily's Blessing day was so great! Since we were moving home so soon after she was born, we decided to just wait until we got out here to CA so our family could be there for it. It was pretty low key compared to P's (and by that I mean less family there) but was still just as wonderful. Jeff gave a beautiful blessing. It was also special because she wore the dress I was sealed to my parents in. Jeff wasn't a fan of how long it was for such a small baby, but it was so neat for her to wear something that is so special in my family. The P-man looked like a little stud in his outfit too! I wish I would have gotten some of the two of them together, o-well. It was a fabulous day! Thanks so much for all the family and friends that were there, it meant so much to have you there and we missed those who couldn't come! Isn't she so perfect! I love this picture of her laying on the grass. She is so pure and clean and perfect ! I love her!

Disneyland

A little late but . . . We Went To Disneyland! So you may or may not know that we went to Disneyland back in July. It was so much fun! As we were planning the trip I was really worried about how it would be taking 2 babies there, in my mind they were way too young to do anything there but boy was I wrong! All of us had a great time and we all went on tons of rides, even Emily!
