On September 27th we decided to do a little backyard camping. Last year we did it over Labor Day weekend. That was the plan for this year too but it didn't work out. The kids had been asking to do it again. When Jeff worked from home that Friday I thought it would be the perfect day to do it before it got too cold. Since our family is a little bigger we decided it was time to upgrade from our little two person tent. My parents got this tent when I was a kid and we only used it once. They said we could have it. So I headed over, climbed in their rafters and found it. Jeff still needed to work a little so we headed to my in laws (our backyard doesn't have room) and I started setting it up. It was pretty easy to do, aside from the popping it up part. The kids tried to help but that didn't work out so well. Finally Jeff came over and assisted me and we got it up before dark.
We ran back over to the house to get everything we needed and headed back to have some fun!
We brought flashlights which the kids thought were the coolest things ever. Attempted shadow puppets, and took turns telling stories. It was so fun. We even had almost S'mores. You know, Marshmallows and Chocolate but no graham crackers. The kids still thought it was awesome.
Pretty soon it was time to bundle up. It was a pretty cold night. The kids woke up a few times because during the summer they got so used to sleeping without the covers they didn't want to. I think it wasn't until about 3:00 am that they finally understood the point of sleeping bags and blankets. haha. I was excited to have a nice quite night to talk to my hubby but it turns out if you put a man outside in a cozy sleeping bag after dark he falls asleep pretty quickly. O-well.
Riley and Parker woke up at 6:00 am so I took them inside to eat and play while we waited for Em and Daddy to wake up. Nice that we had that luxury. Not to mention, when Grandpa woke up he made us pancakes. My kind of camping!
Someday I'd love to go actual camping. We used to do it all the time growing up and some of my greatest memories are camping with my family. But for now, especially with a 2 month old, this was perfect and turning into being a fun tradition! Can't wait until next year!!
