Isn't it thought?
I love it. Everyone is happy and generous. The smell of the Christmas tree in your home. The Christmas lights. The music. The baked goodies. The giving. It is all just WONDERFUL!
One of my friends (Ashley) posted this and I thought it was a fun way to document a little about me and our Christmas traditions so I did it. Here goes:
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Um, BOTH! And Apple Cider too!
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? He just leaves them under the tree. The wrapped presents come from family and friends.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? White, white, only WHITE! I don't really know why, but I really don't like the colorful lights. I think it is because to me the lights are supposed to symbolize sparkling snow on the rooftops and trees.
4. Do you hang mistletoe? You bet your sweet bippy we do!
5. When do you put your decorations up? TODAY!! The Saturday after Thanksgiving.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish? The cookie plates from neighbors and friends filled with fudge, pumpkin roll, sugar cookies, and all that good stuff. :)
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Doing advent calenders and our Christmas Eve family get-together with my mom's side where we do our Christmas program, sing, and act out the nativity.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I honestly do not remember, obviously I was not traumatized or devastated about it.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? P J's of course!!
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? White lights and special ornaments. We got a new one each year as a kid and we are now keeping the same tradition in our family. I would also like to get some solid red ones to intermix with the special ones.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Dread it! I like to visit it every once in a while, but I have NO desire to live in it ever, EVER again!
12. Can you ice skate? I can ... now can I do any cool tricks, no. But at least I don't fall down.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Nothing really stands out to me. When I was in I think 8th grade I got a big puffy 49er Jacket that I was pretty stoked about. lol. And actually, now that I think about it, I do remember one year my mom ... err... "Santa" fixed my handmade doll Betsy. She was falling apart and I woke up to her all fixed with a new dress. I was so excited!
14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Being with family, remembering our Savior and all He did for us, and food of course!
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? I don't know, I like them all. I have a major sweet tooth and zero restraint, I honestly should weigh at least 300 lbs.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Aside from advent calenders and our big Christmas Eve shindig, I would say doing the 12 days of Christmas to someone or sending and receiving Christmas greeting cards & letters.
17. What tops your tree? An angel
18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? I LOVE giving!! Especially if it is something I know they really want or need. Or if it is something I made or know they will love. Receiving is fun, but I usually feel like it is too much and don't ever feel like "Thank You" really does my feelings/gratitude justice.
19. Candy Canes: Yuck or Yum? Meh ... I don't love them, I don't hate them.
20. Favorite Christmas show or movie? White Christmas, Elf, The Santa Clause, and Home Alone are must in our house.
21. Saddest Christmas Song? Christmas Shoes - by New song. I LOVE this song, but it brings tears to my eyes every time yet I listen to it over and over and over. If you haven't heard it, listen to it! Lyrics found here, music video found here.
Here is the Chorus:
"Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes will make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight"
22. What is your favorite Christmas song? Seriously? How are you supposed to pick just one! I love them all in some version or another. I love the dance around the house and sing at the top of your lungs songs like "Rockin' Around the Christmas tree," "Jingle Bell Rock," "Santa Clause is Coming to Town," "All I want for Christmas is You," "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and many others. I also really love the clam, beautiful, thought provoking songs like "O, Holy Night," "Mary did you know," "Silent Night," the one I mentioned int he last question "Christmas Shoes," And so many more! Ooo, I also LOVE Michael McLean's Forgotten Christmas Carols. They probably win as my favorite.
Well, that's it for the questions. Feel free to do them too. It is always fun hearing about other people traditions.
Anyway, I am SOOOOO Excited for Christmas this year.
