Toddler Tantrums

Advice Please!

At first they weren't too bad, now I am really going crazy! What has worked for you? He is really good at communicating what he wants because he can talk so well, he just doesn't like it when he doesn't get what he want.

So really, what have you done?

Get love and logic for children 6 months- ? I forget. I could give you several principles to help, but the book will do that and illustrate perfectly. The stories strike at the heart of every major challenge parents face such as tantrums, sleeping, feeding, etc. Just get it and trust me! You'll learn how to effectively communicate and teach him how to too. My kids do awesome with it. The best part is teaching your kids to make choices that you like, but by giving them choices rather than demanding things to be done one way or right now.

Oh Bec I know you can do it! I'm sure it's a huge combination of things in his life changing right now - possibly still from Emily, moving, the new big things ahead, etc. Plus, he's two! That in and of itself lends towards tantrums. I'd love to chat sometime - comments on blogs don't seem to do this kind of topic justice, ya know? I definitely don't have THE answer, but we can talk about our struggles together! haha. :) Miss and love ya!

For Kamryn, time-outs help. If she just breaks down I calmly pick her up and tell her she is going to time out because she didn't listen to mommy or crying. I come back and relieve her in about a minute. I tell her what she needs to do (be happy, pick up the toy, etc.) and have her say "sorry". If we run into a tantrum again, we are in time out again. It is just a way to get away from the situation.
If it is really bad crying, sometimes it turns into "rest time" in her bed. She's always happier within a half hour of "resting". Getting away from the situation.
I know it doesn't work for all kids. But it works ok for us.

ALSO, if you think any of it is related to Emily, (I found Kamryn whining a lot more after Kyler had been around for a few months), I found that if I really dedicated sometime to one on one with her life was easier overall. And if I didn't ever approach things I did with Kyler as "I need to feed/change/etc. Kyler now" but more "Let's go do this with Kyler" then she was happier because it didn't feel like he was taking me away from her! :)

Anyway, sorry so long! Just some thoughts! :) Good luck! It's tough but you'll figure out what works for you and P!

I do the time-out thing with Macy and it works really well. She talks a lot too, so sometimes I just say to her- I'm going to walk away because you're hurting my ears and when you're done, you let me know- since she understands me, it works pretty well- that is an advantage of having a verbal kid! Though most days all the chatting can drive one nuts.... i don't know if that will work or whatever, but I always like something new to try even if it ends up not working... =)

I need a haircut ASAP! This is me saying, "I'll smile if you ignore my hair." Don't get me wrong, I am really excited I have long hair, I love having long hair , but it needs a little TLC. It has been a few months since I have even got a trim and I am still re-couping from a not so good hair cut. The last few times I have really CUT my hair, not just a trim, I was not pleased with the results. Em's Blessing

Emily's Blessing day was so great! Since we were moving home so soon after she was born, we decided to just wait until we got out here to CA so our family could be there for it. It was pretty low key compared to P's (and by that I mean less family there) but was still just as wonderful. Jeff gave a beautiful blessing. It was also special because she wore the dress I was sealed to my parents in. Jeff wasn't a fan of how long it was for such a small baby, but it was so neat for her to wear something that is so special in my family. The P-man looked like a little stud in his outfit too! I wish I would have gotten some of the two of them together, o-well. It was a fabulous day! Thanks so much for all the family and friends that were there, it meant so much to have you there and we missed those who couldn't come! Isn't she so perfect! I love this picture of her laying on the grass. She is so pure and clean and perfect ! I love her!

Disneyland

A little late but . . . We Went To Disneyland! So you may or may not know that we went to Disneyland back in July. It was so much fun! As we were planning the trip I was really worried about how it would be taking 2 babies there, in my mind they were way too young to do anything there but boy was I wrong! All of us had a great time and we all went on tons of rides, even Emily!
