Well, i'm now writing this 1 year after the fact, and to be honest, I dont remember very much. The nurse came in and got me started. I was a little worried thinking, shouldn't the doctor be in here to receive? But it takes a while so I learned. After she got us going and taught Jeff how to read the monitor she also left. Jeff and I kinda looked at each other, both kinda scared because neither of us knew what was going on. She said she would be back before I had another contraction however, she missed 3 or 4! Jeff was great and helped me push. It was just crazy to both of us that now I was in actual labor and everyone left us alone like we knew what we were doing. It was funny.
So the nurse came back and helped us for about 30 more minutes. It was funny, because of my second epidural and my legs being completely numb, i could not hold them up on my own. You are supposed to pull them up to your chest, and I literally could not! I had to have the help of Jeff and the Nurse.
The baby dropped fast and they could see his head and his hair. They put up a mirror so I could see, which was kind of cool. So after about 45 mins of pushing they said it was time, so the nurse left again to get the doctor. We then realized that it was the real thing now which was CRAZY to think about!
The doctor came in, and I really wasn't making any progress because his head was so HUGE! lol, A year later it is still in the 95%. He decided to give me an episiotomy because I was starting to tear anyway. That was probably the most intense part for Jeff. I guess he just straight up took scissors to me and cut me. Pretty much as soon as this happened, he came right out! Apparently they did use forceps which Jeff said they were pretty brutal about. He was like, "I'm pretty sure you are supposed to be gental with babies not pull on their heads!" The whole thing was pretty intense for Jeff to watch, but he stayed by my side the whole time and didn't even flinch.
They put the big boy on the scale, the doctor guessed he was about 8 lbs 10 oz but we soon found out he was 9 lbs 1 oz! No wonder he wouldn't come out! They then took him over to clean him up a little. He never really cried. He did a little, but never a good cry. They were a little worried since he never really cried there was still some fluid in his lungs. They called in a specialist and he was able to get some out, but not all of it so they decided to take him away. They let me hold him for about 1 minute before they took him away, and Jeff went with him to make sure everything was OK.
That one minute was Amazing! I really wish we could have had the full hour that you usually have before they take them away. It would have been so nice to just be there together as our new family. That is the only thing I would have changed. But I am glad that they were able to make sure he was OK, and I'm glad Jeff could go with him to. But I must admit, that I HATED being alone that hour. If you know me at all, you know that one thing I hate the most is being alone and this was probably the saddest and hardest part of labor and delivery for me. I had really been looking forward to that hour you get to spend with just me, jeff, and our new little one. But there I was, all alone, my body just having gone through a traumatic experience and as a result was shivering beyond control. I think I just sat there and cried the whole hour. The nurse kept coming in and checking on me and I told her I was fine, I really couldn't control anything that was happening to me physically or emotionally. They finally told me that my room was ready for me and I could finally leave this room and be reunited with my husband and my new little one. Right at that moment my best friend walked in the door and I honestly don't think I have ever been so happy to see someone in my whole life!! I was seriously so alone and that hour seemed like it lasted forever! It was so great to see a friendly face and really made me feel 100 times better!
She walked with me as they strolled me to my new room and thus began the hospital stay.
