I Believe In

I believe in being:
honest,
true,
chaste,
benevolent,
virtuous,
and in doing good to all men;
indeed, I may say that I follow the admonition of Paul—
I believe all things,
I hope all things,
I have endured many things,
and hope to be able to endure all things.
If there is anything:
virtuous,
lovely,
or of good report
or praiseworthy,
I seek after these things.

This past weekend I went to a women's conference and I am SOOOO glad I did! It was so great to get away and take a "Time Out" (that is what the conference was called). All of the speakers were AMAZING! I learned so much from each of them. I wish I could have taken notes as I held Emily, but I'm not quite that talented. The overall theme was "Infinite Hope" based on the 13th article of faith which is stated above (except I replaced the all of the "We"s with "I"s). One of the presenters said it using I in the place of we and it really hit me. I have had the Articles of Faith memorized for at least 15 years and I don't think I have ever done that. It really hit me and it made me think, am I really trying to live up to what I believe. Am I really practicing all that is said in that statement? I sure want to be! But I know I have some major improvements to make.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to go, it was kind of a spur of the moment thing but it really was just what I needed. After leaving the "bubble" real life hit me pretty hard. Life is scary outside of Provo. I have decided I really don't want to watch the news because there is NO good news on TV. Every time I turn on the TV all I hear is violence and murders and it scares me to death to know this is the kind of world I am going to raise my kids in. But one of the other statements that was shared that really stood out to me was about how we do live in a very wicked and dark time but that we were preserved for this day to come down at this time because we could handle it and we were so strong. And they said that diamonds stand out the most with a dark background. So I'm totally butchering the phrase, but do you get what I mean?

Anyway, it was a great weekend and it did fill me with hope because even though it is the worst of times, it is the best of times! And there is much to hope for and to look forward to. So I came back ready for life and hope for the future.

But while I was gone and surrounded by all the wonderful women I had a random thought: Why is it when men take a "time out" they go play or go to a sporting event or something but when women take a "time out" to go to these seminars and learn how they can improve their lives and their families? Just a thought. lol.

p.s. if it hasn't come to your area yet, I would HIGHLY recommend going. I'm already trying to plan how I am going to go next year! Here is their website: Time Out for Women

OOh! Fun! Mine isn't until Nov. I'll tell my mom about it tho - it's in Phoenix next month. And I too wonder about the men/women time out priorities. LOL

It was a lot of fun and so inspiring. I am glad you shared about the 13th article of faith, I forgot about it and yes that is truly an awesome way to state it. P.S. I think you nailed the diamond quote!

The Light of the World

I was asked to give a talk yesterday in church.  Kinda daunting knowing it was Christmas Sunday, but I think it went pretty well.  I like remembering my talk so I'm throwing it up here mainly for my own record.  But maybe it will bless the lives of others too.  I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and that the Light of Christ will be upon you and radiate from you now and forever. Jesus Christ: The Light of the World Rebecca’s talk given on 12/20/2015 Jesus Christ.  Can a topic be any broader? I have spent a lot of time over the last 6 weeks trying to decide what direction I wanted to go and I kept going back to the same thought, Jesus is the light of the world.  This is not an insignificant statement, but very profound and very important.  Let’s start from the beginning. Many Prophets have testified of the fact that Jesus Christ is the light of the world long before the Savior was even born.  The very first sign of his bir...

Because God Love's Us

How is Christ’s Birth Significant to me Talk on 12/20/2020 Good Morning Brothers and Sisters & Merry Christmas!   Heavenly Father must know my preferred method for giving a talk is procrastinating because I have been called to fill in last minute on many occasions.   However, this is the first time it’s happened on Christmas Sunday.   But I am happy to be here with you and I’m so grateful for technology that allows us to meet and worship together, especially during this Christmas season.   I’m not gonna lie, this is weird speaking on zoom.   I much prefer being together and making eye contact with you and seeing your encouraging smiles.   So please bear with any awkwardness I may have.   When initially asked to speak, Brother Smith gave me the topic of “How Christ’s birth is significant to me.”   My initial response was, could that topic be any broader?   But then gratefully he followed it up with “Particularly from the prosp...

Kid's Talks

Riley’s Primary Talk on Baptism 3/15/20 Today I want to talk on Baptism.   Being baptized is a commandment from Heavenly Father.   We have to be baptized to make it back to Him.   Even Jesus Christ was baptized.   If Jesus Christ was baptized we should be baptized too.   When we turn 8 years old we can choose to follow Jesus Christ’s example and be baptized too.   When we are baptized and confirmed we become members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.     If you have already been baptized, you should remember the covenants, or promises you made.   If you have not been baptized, you should study and pray and keep the commandments so that when you turn 8 years old you will be ready. We should all remember how important baptism is.   I am really excited I get to be baptized next year.   In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen Faith Parker’s Talk   2/16/20   Today, my talk is going to be about f...
