Going Green ... in a different way

Well, I took the little lady to the doctor this week. She was a measly 16 lbs 10 oz. That is 3 oz. less than last time we went to the doctors which is not a good thing. She is also officially in the 1% of all children her age. So the doctor told me to fatten her up.

Our first battle is with Milk. She will not drink it, period. That was until I made one of these "Green Smoothies." My first one wasn't actually green in color but it had:

1 Cup Whole Milk
1 Banana
1 Cup Strawberry Yogurt
A few Strawberries
1/2 cup of Peas

She LOVED IT! The most milk I have gotten her to drink EVER.

I have since then researched a lot more recipes. The best green food to put in is Spinach or Kale. I just bought some tonight and will be trying them out tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm pretty excited about it. The best thing about it is you can really throw ANYTHING in you want. I'll try and post our favorites, but so far everything I have read the kids love them and they are SUPER healthy.

This will also be good because Emily is on a High Fat diet while Parker is on a Low Fat diet (his last appointment he was technically overweight). This makes my meal planning pretty tricky. P always wants what Em is eating and since she needs fatty stuff he cant have it. These smoothies will be great because I can make a more fatty one for her and a less fatty one for him simply by switching the milk for water.

Wish me luck!

Em has a follow-up appointment in a month to make sure she starts gaining.

mmm! We love green smoothies (though I don't have anyone to fatten up so we go nonfat :)) they are delicious! We have some popsicle forms, so I usually dump any leftovers in one and it makes a healthy delicious frozen snack for later!

That sounds interesting. wghen you say peas, do you use fresh frozen canned?

Also when Lauren turned a year she lost a bunch of weight. (For her height she was under weight) We didn't really change her eating habits, and about a month or two later she just started eating again. Don't get me wrong she would eat little things here and there, but nothing like you would expect.
Gavin lost weight around his 18th month check up. Probably because he was so active, but by the time he was two he packed on a few more pounds.

I think kids just go through grow spurts, and growth slow downs.

Holy crap. My nephew is about 8 months old and he's 25lbs. Not that that's normal (he's always been in the 90% and up for weight). But wow! I could still carry her! That must be nice! Don't worry, she'll fatten up. Those smoothies look a lot better than I thought they would when I heard "green smoothies" Way to go! And I bet they taste better when you make a face out of the ingredients first :)

The Light of the World

I was asked to give a talk yesterday in church.  Kinda daunting knowing it was Christmas Sunday, but I think it went pretty well.  I like remembering my talk so I'm throwing it up here mainly for my own record.  But maybe it will bless the lives of others too.  I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and that the Light of Christ will be upon you and radiate from you now and forever. Jesus Christ: The Light of the World Rebecca’s talk given on 12/20/2015 Jesus Christ.  Can a topic be any broader? I have spent a lot of time over the last 6 weeks trying to decide what direction I wanted to go and I kept going back to the same thought, Jesus is the light of the world.  This is not an insignificant statement, but very profound and very important.  Let’s start from the beginning. Many Prophets have testified of the fact that Jesus Christ is the light of the world long before the Savior was even born.  The very first sign of his bir...

Because God Love's Us

How is Christ’s Birth Significant to me Talk on 12/20/2020 Good Morning Brothers and Sisters & Merry Christmas!   Heavenly Father must know my preferred method for giving a talk is procrastinating because I have been called to fill in last minute on many occasions.   However, this is the first time it’s happened on Christmas Sunday.   But I am happy to be here with you and I’m so grateful for technology that allows us to meet and worship together, especially during this Christmas season.   I’m not gonna lie, this is weird speaking on zoom.   I much prefer being together and making eye contact with you and seeing your encouraging smiles.   So please bear with any awkwardness I may have.   When initially asked to speak, Brother Smith gave me the topic of “How Christ’s birth is significant to me.”   My initial response was, could that topic be any broader?   But then gratefully he followed it up with “Particularly from the prosp...

Kid's Talks

Riley’s Primary Talk on Baptism 3/15/20 Today I want to talk on Baptism.   Being baptized is a commandment from Heavenly Father.   We have to be baptized to make it back to Him.   Even Jesus Christ was baptized.   If Jesus Christ was baptized we should be baptized too.   When we turn 8 years old we can choose to follow Jesus Christ’s example and be baptized too.   When we are baptized and confirmed we become members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.     If you have already been baptized, you should remember the covenants, or promises you made.   If you have not been baptized, you should study and pray and keep the commandments so that when you turn 8 years old you will be ready. We should all remember how important baptism is.   I am really excited I get to be baptized next year.   In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen Faith Parker’s Talk   2/16/20   Today, my talk is going to be about f...
